一、學科範圍

耳科學（Otology）是由外科分化而來，喉科學（Laryngology）則是由內科劃分出來。在治療疾病時，因為需要特殊或專門的知識及技巧，遂演變成專門獨立的學科。加上耳鼻喉部位互有影響，遂合併為現在的耳鼻喉科（Otolaryngology）。耳鼻喉科診治的範圍概括頭頸部之內科及外科。其學科範圍包含：1. 耳鼻喉科醫學總論：如音聲學（Phoniatrics）之一般性論述等。2. 耳鼻喉科診斷、檢驗及儀器；3. 耳、鼻、咽喉疾病；4. 耳、鼻、咽喉腫瘤；5. 耳、鼻、咽喉疾病的治療方式。
